Bergitta serves as the COO for the American College of Physicians. ACP is the largest medical specialty organization in the U.S. with members in more than 145 countries worldwide. ACP membership includes 161,000 internal medicine physicians, related subspecialists, and medical students.

As COO, Cotroneo oversees major operational areas within the College and implementation of strategic priorities. Her role involves working with ACP’s CEO to oversee the activities of ACP’s senior leadership team and staff and support the work of ACP boards, committees, councils and task forces.

Prior to joining ACP Bergitta served as the deputy CEO & EVP for the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), a Virginia-based consortium of five medical professional associations representing over 11,000 academic internal medicine faculty and administrators at academic medical centers and teaching hospitals in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Prior to joining AAIM, she served as COO at the National Patient Safety Foundation. Earlier roles include director of ambulatory practice management, and director of medical staff affairs at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and executive director of the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
