Ms. Willemsen was named John Muir Health’s first chief operating officer in 2022. She oversees the operations of two acute care medical centers located in Walnut Creek (554-licensed beds) and Concord (245-licensed beds), and a third facility for behavioral health services (73-licensed beds) also located in Concord. In addition, she oversees John Muir Health’s foundation based primary and specialty care medical groups, which currently include 370 physicians representing 15 different specialties.

John Muir Health’s Medical Centers are widely recognized as leaders in many specialties, including neuroscience, orthopedic, cancer, gynecologic surgery, cardiovascular, trauma, emergency, rehabilitation, pediatrics and high-risk obstetrics care. Ms. Willemsen was instrumental in the development of and oversees John Muir Health’s joint venture with Stanford Children’s Health, which provides pediatric specialty services to the local community, including Contra Costa County’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Under her leadership, the medical centers have achieved numerous quality recognitions, including being named as one of America’s top hospitals by U.S. News and World Report for 17 consecutive years.

Prior to joining John Muir Health in 2006 as president and chief administrative officer of the Walnut Creek Medical Center, Ms. Willemsen served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, California.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa, and a Master of Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
