Carolyn Carpenter is currently president of the president of Johns Hopkins National Capital Region. Previously, she served as vice president of Sentara Healthcare and chief operating officer of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. As vice president, she served as the system executive for the Sentara Cancer Network spanning 12 hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina. In her more than twenty years of progressive responsibility in academic health center, Carpenter has distinguished herself by building high performing teams, developing novel organizational models to create value, and planning and executing program growth. Prior to arriving at Sentara, Carpenter held multiple roles at Duke Health including chief operating officer of Duke University Hospital, associate dean of the Duke School of Medicine and associate vice president of Duke Health System as the senior administrator for the Duke Cancer Institute. Carpenter received her B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania and her MHA from Medical College of Virginia. She is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and an adjunct assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health.
